Eric Braeden has portrayed Victor Newman on The Young and the Restless for decades. In fact, Victor and Nikki, played by Melody Thomas Scott, just celebrated the 40th anniversary of their first wedding. Throughout that time, there’s one big storyline that Braeden didn’t like for Victor and Nikki.
Love Triangle
On X (formerly Twitter), a fan recently reshared a post featuring some old-school artwork from Y&R. That poster featured an unhappy-looking Victor with a very much-in-love Jack (Peter Bergman) and Nikki dancing in the background. The tagline read, “Jack has Nikki very much where he wants her. The Next move in Victor’s.”
The fan wrote, “Oooh [Eric Braeden], how did I never know that Jack and Nikki had a fling?” As he frequently does, Braeden responded, “DON‘t remind me!!!😳🙈”

Other fans discussed how Jack and Nikki had been married and everything. Not only that, but Jack also helped raise both Victoria (now Amelia Heinle) and Nick (now Joshua Morrow). Braeden weighed in on that, too. He wrote, “And Victor always resented it!!”
Of course, longtime viewers will remember that ultimately, Victor ended up marrying Jack’s sister Ashley (Eileen Davidson), and that never set too well with Jack either. Victor still carries a soft spot for Ashley, who is the mother of his daughter Abby (Melissa Ordway).
Obviously, now, Nikki is leaning on Jack as her AA sponsor, and it’s clearly causing some feelings for Victor, too. He doesn’t love it. Not only that, but it also seems as if Diane (Susan Walters) doesn’t appreciate seeing her husband spending so much time with Nikki.
With Jack and Victor working together to find Harrison (Redding Munsell, who just took over the role) and Claire (Hayley Erin), it’s bound to bring up some of their old rivalry.
