The Young and the Restless Spoilers: Did Cole Rig Claire’s DNA Test – Couldn’t Bear to Take Away Victoria’s Second Chance?
The Young and the Restless (Y&R) spoilers reveal that the show’s left an interesting door open when it comes to Claire Grace’s (Hayley Erin) parentage. Instead of just having Claire provide her DNA sample, Cole Howard (J. Eddie Peck) went through the far more complicated process of retrieving some of her items from the lake house.
One of those items was a hairbrush, which is interesting since Claire took the time to brush Nikki Newman’s (Melody Thomas Scott) hair while she was in captivity.
Y&R made sure to show Claire brushing Nikki’s golden locks, so let’s keep that in mind for a moment.
Now consider the fact that Victoria Newman (Amelia Heinle) let Cole handle everything.
Cole could tell Victoria was already getting her hopes up about their daughter being alive, especially since he was in that same boat.
Cole has been quite sympathetic to Claire and could see how much she needed to finally have parents in her life – people who would love and support her the way Jordan (Colleen Zenk) never did.
What if Cole decided to make sure Claire appeared to be their child, even if she really wasn’t?
Cole might’ve felt like Victoria and Claire both needed this to be true – and maybe Cole did, too.
Once Cole thought about what it’d be like to break Victoria’s heart and yank away her second chance at a daughter, he might’ve gone to great lengths to prevent that pain.
It’s possible Cole found the hairbrush from Nikki’s room and brought it back to Genoa City as part of a backup plan.
Cole brought other items from the lake house that supposedly belonged to Claire, so what if he secretly used those to confirm he wasn’t a match for her – and neither was Victoria?
Out of desperation, Cole might’ve made sure Victoria got the results of a different test – one that compared her DNA to the sample collected from Nikki’s hairbrush.
That would explain the mother-daughter match that Victoria confirmed through the results on her phone.
As for Cole, no one ever actually saw what his results said but him! Cole could’ve just pretended it was a match and played along so Victoria would believe the lie.
Even if the official story is that Claire is Cole and Victoria’s daughter, there’s plenty of wiggle room for Y&R writers to change Claire’s parentage down the road.
Once Victoria and Claire form a real bond, maybe the truth will come out and leave them both devastated over the deception.
It could force Claire and Victoria to choose each other without that blood tie, which would certainly bring an interesting development in this storyline.
