Will Kim Delaney return to Chicago Fire?
While “Chicago Fire” viewers were familiar with firefighter Kelly Severide’s complicated relationship with his (now deceased) father, Benny Severide, they had not met his mother, Jennifer Sheridan, until the show’s sixth season. Sheridan, played by Kim Delaney, is described by the creators of “Chicago Fire” as a “warm, bible-quoting, church-going” woman. Even though she has vowed to move forward with her messy divorce from Benny, it seems like she is still struggling with her current situation. Sheridan is there to provide at least a little wisdom to her reluctant son, played by Taylor Kinney, and his lover, firefighter Stella Kidd, according to One Chicago Center.
According to One Chicago Center, Delaney also appeared intermittently throughout the seventh season, though later disappeared from the series. Despite this lack of representation, fans were quick to show their appreciation for Severide’s parents. One “Chicago Fire” fan tweeted: “Dear Jennifer Sheridan, Nancy Casey and Camila Dawson, you have three of the most amazing children ever.” “Thank you for giving birth to them.”
The latest rumor circulating among “Chicago Fire” fans is about the return of Delaney’s character.
Delaney could return to Chicago Fire for a 10th season
While nothing has been officially revealed, “Chicago Fire” showrunner Derek Haas told TV Line that at least one former character from the show will reappear on the show in its 10th season. Haas said to TV Line: “There will be an old character coming back in the second episode and continuing. It’s a fun and emotional surprise.” According to One Chicago Center, the first episode of the show’s 10th season, which premiered in September, reportedly sets up the return of Kelly Severide’s mother, Jennifer Sheridan, as the firefighter is constantly in demand call your mother. However, the second episode of the 10th season of “Chicago Fire” aired and Sheridan, played by Kim Delaney, did not appear – and in fact still has not appeared.
In 2020, Delaney joined the cast of the daytime drama series “General Hospital,” according to Deadline. Instead of reprising her role as Severide’s mother in “Chicago Fire,” Delaney went back to her roots as a soap star, as she previously gained a large fan base as Jenny Gardner in “All My Children”.
So far, there’s no word on the fate of Delaney’s character in “Chicago Fire” and whether she will appear at some point in the near future.
