Y&R Opinion: Sally Professes Her Love to Nick, But Does Everyone Believe it?

Y&R opinion for October 2-6

Adam dumped Sally on July 19, 2022. It’s been over a year, that the masses have waited for a reunion and today, Sally professed her love to Nick and told Adam to stay out of her life, which tells us where Sally’s future lies. With Nick. Or does it?

I bitched about Sally, Adam and Nick in my last three opinion columns. In January, I felt Sally’s pregnancy story was written 1960s style with her life falling apart after being dumped by Adam. They clipped her wings and turned her into a simp who was somehow unable to work or take her birth control pills. Then in March, I complained that they turned Sally into a child who didn’t even know enough when to eat while she was pregnant. Finally, in August, I complained that Sally’s passion was squashed in lieu of giving her the same low energy as Nick.

It turns out I’m not finished. This character I once rooted for, once really enjoyed, who was strong, capable and didn’t need a man, has been written into what a misogynist sees women as.

Can we move on from this triangle?

On Wednesday’s episode, Sally told Adam, “There is no us.” Of course, Adam thought that meant there was still a chance. Then she told him, “Stay out of my way and out of my life.”

And still, Adam went to Sharon and told her Sally still wants him. Oy.

I loved Sally with Adam and find they have chemistry and similarities.

I don’t see any chemistry between Sally and Nick, nor do I see why they’re together.

But Sally has been pushing Adam away for the better part of a year.

She’s showing us who she wants, and it isn’t Adam.

But the show doesn’t want us to move on from this triangle, so they keep having her insinuate herself into his life.

The incessant theorizing

Theorizing is usually a fun part of watching any show. But it’s getting old and some of the theories are filled with wishful thinking based on whether or not the viewer is a stan of Adam and Sally.

Part of the audience thinks Sally is in love with Adam and that she’s afraid to admit it. We’ve certainly seen this romantic trope enough to go there but these are usually short lived and it’s been over a year.

And it’s a repeat of what happened with Sharon and Adam.

Some viewers say Sally knows Adam’s in love with her yet she continues to string him along, enjoying that both men want her. Sometimes it sure seems that way.

Sally asked Adam to dinner, knowing perfectly well that he would read more into it. And why? Because she was lonesome without Nick. It disrespected his inability to move on from obsessing about her.sally tells adam to find some boundaries

Sally’s actions have shown us on repeat that she wants Nick, but some believe Sally has residual feelings for Adam because she moved on too quickly with Nick and hasn’t dealt with them.

That she kissed him back makes that obvious.

She even kind of admitted in a round about way (they’re never direct) that she had “a mixed reaction I guess. I don’t know.” When Nick assumed there was a part of her that was still in love with his brother, she said, “I don’t know how to answer that.”

A yes or a no would suffice, Sally girl!

But we can’t have nice things. Even though we saw how she dealt with the kiss after, by leaning against the door.

This non-answer means many will be watching with bated breath, hopeful that Sally, who has told Nick she loves him, will finally reveal she’s actually in love with Adam.

I don’t think that’s going to happen. It’s not fair to the audience to string them along like this. It pisses people off, ensures you can’t trust the writing and makes people stop watching. The ratings are in a hole as it is. This type of writing doesn’t help.
