A Critic’s Review Of The Young and the Restless: Confrontations & Nepotism

When it comes to The Young and the Restless, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of Y&R’s week that was.
The Young and the Restless: The Critic Offers HIS Take
While I’ll admit that Jill (Jess Walton) and Mamie’s (Veronica Redd) confrontation actually exceeded my expectations, said expectations weren’t exactly at an all-time high, and even if I’m being honest, the scenes could have been even harder-hitting.
I was also disappointed in the thoroughly unnecessary propping of Devon (Bryton James) and Abby (Melissa Ordway) courtesy of Jill — sorry, but Jill wouldn’t be beyond thrilled to have the two people who screwed her grandson living it up in the house she once fought tooth and nail for.
All that granted, I did very much appreciate seeing/hearing Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) crack-wise with Danny (Michael Damian). FINALLY, the real Red was present and accounted for even if the moment was brief. Sad Sack Phyllis is not nearly as fun.
Speaking of sad sacks, Kyle (Michael Mealor) continues to grate, especially considering he somehow seems to think he’s owed the co-CEO title by virtue of being Jack’s (Peter Bergman) son. Sometimes nepotism is a dirty, dirty word.
Further Y&R Musings
* And here was me thinking that Audra (Zuleyka Silver) was going to be the Eve Harrington to Nikki’s (Melody Thomas Scott) Margo Channing [All About Eve, circa 1950] when clearly that role is going to be filled by Hayley Erin’s Claire Grace.
While Victoria (Amelia Heinle) and Adam’s (Mark Grossman) grappling for control of Newman Enterprises certainly smacks of, say, the Carrington siblings vying for Denver Carrington on Dynasty circa season 8, it’s unfortunate that the storyline is neither as entertaining nor as engaging as the type that preceded it.
And maybe that’s because it’s a little too pat, or way too rote, but either way, I think that Josh Griffith has overestimated viewers’ interest in this particular plot point.
I’m equally sure that any and all proponents of the Adam/Sally/Nicholas triangle have tired of the roundaboutness of it all and are glad to see at least one man bow out of the running-ish.
My one complaint in regard to the development is the obvious desire to recouple Nicholas and Sharon (Sharon Case). I’ve just never got the love for these two. I’ve always been more of a Nicholas/Phyllis man myself.
