Adam and Nate meet at the GCAC. Adam already ordered coffee for the boss and asks how he takes it.
Nate doesn’t like his attitude. He wants to set some ground rules.
Chuckling, Adam assumes he’s thrilled to have this much power over him.
He apologizes for being snide and Nate wonders why he would accept this job at all.
Adam brought this on himself. He wanted to start at the bottom and left his father to make the choice.
Nate makes it clear none of this was his choice.
Adam is grateful for his new beginning and knows how hard it is to get his position.
“Put me to work, Nate,” he says.
Hastings isn’t buying any of this and is just out to get back in after screwing things up.
The Newman admits it’s where he wants to be and he serves at the pleasure of whoever is his boss.
Nate admires how he spins things but thinks trusting him with this job is foolish. He’ll have access to confidential information.
He doesn’t trust him any more than Victoria does so he will only let him have menial tasks. He’ll pay for an assistant he can trust for some substantial work.
Adam is sure that his father will shoot that plan down.
They bicker and Adam reminds him he double-crossed his own family. He concedes his own plans have failed.
This is all a wake-up call for Adam. Nate still doesn’t trust him or believe he can change.
His actions show that he can’t change.
The Newman wants a chance to prove he can, to him and everyone else.
Nate suspects that this is all part of a broader agenda of his father’s. He assumes that he was put in as Adam’s boss to prevent him from doing damage to the company.
Adam thinks he’s just pushing his buttons to get him to react.
His boss claims he just wants to prove to Victor that he can’t become a decent man.
“You can’t touch me Nate,” says Adam. Nate is sure he will self-destruct.
Adam insists he’s in it for the long haul. He’ll sharpen all the pencils he needs, but Nate won’t break him.
Victoria stops by her father’s office and notices how content he looks in the big chair.
This all sounds so pleasant he assumes she’s on the attack. She claims she’s tired of fighting and wants peace.
He’s glad but surprised to hear that given her attitude.
His daughter claims she’s thought it over and made a decision about the future.
She claims she’s seen the wisdom of his actions and accepted them.
She can see he’s looking at the long game and trying to unite a fractured work environment.
He asks how that fracture happened. They agree that all started with Ashland.
She’s adamant that Adam has been the consistent problem. He’s not impressed by this assessment and insists he’s never been given the benefit of the doubt.
Victoria is sure his son will disappoint him and has an agenda. No one can keep her brother in line.
When she claims she will try to give him another chance, he gets suspicious of how abrupt that change is.
His daughter says she thinks the company can survive anything and she can put her feelings aside.
He’s happy to hear that. He was starting to think their relationship was untenable. If it gets to that point again, he might fire her.
In Sally’s suite, Nick watches her sleep until room service arrives.
She’s dreaming of kissing Adam.
When she imagines Nick catching them, she wakes up.
Nick brings her some freshly squeezed juice. There’s no place he’d rather be than with her.
He wishes they could just hang out and live off love.
She thinks they might wear each other out. Neither of them could last a week without working.
He claims their connection is enough for them. He’s so grateful to wake up with her and reminds her he loves her.
When he was away, it hurt to be away from her. Sally thinks that’s sweet and doesn’t know what to say.
Nick was hoping she might say she was falling for him too.
He walks that back. She says she loves him. Nick guesses she’s not in love with him.
“It’s not you,” she says. That sounds bad to him.
Spectra says her heart has trouble getting there after all she’s been through.
He doesn’t want to put any pressure on her. They kiss and cuddle. She looks worried.
They get dressed and go over their plans for the day and agree to meet in the park for lunch.
She has a surprise planned for him.
Nick calls and tells his dad he can’t meet him for lunch. Victor wonders if he’s trying to avoid him.
Victoria guesses Nick is dodging him too. “He must be suspicious of your motives,” she suggests.
“Whatever,” he groans.
Sally urges Nick to show his father he still loves him. He calls his dad back and asks him to meet for a drink at the end of the day.
Nate and Adam arrive at the office. “My goodness,” Victor says, as they lumber in from breakfast.
Adam announces he’s accepted the position as Nate’s assistant and they have come to an understanding.
Victor thinks this is nice.
Adam is happy he’s happy.
“I am where I belong,” Victor decides.
Victoria squints at Adam as he smirks.
She abruptly exits and Adam goes off to settle into his office.
Victor asks Nate about his discussion with Adam. Nate recaps it and says he’s cautiously optimistic.
Victor isn’t. Everyone is falling into line too easily.
In the hall, Victoria and her brother bicker. He’s sure she’s stinging from being dethroned.
He’s determined to prove himself to their father.
She’s sure Nate will bust him when he shows his true colors.
He’s not buying her act either and she’s the one Victor really needs to worry about.
When Sally goes to the park with a picnic basket, she thinks about kissing Adam again.
She imagines being unable to tell Nick that she loves him because she loves Adam.
When Nick shows up and sees her sitting there with her mouth open, he asks if everything is okay.
“Adam kissed me,” she says.
Claire Grace (played by Hayley Erin) meets with Nikki and Audra for her interview at Society to be Nikki’s assistant.
She tells them all about her early interest in hard work and her passion for playing the flute.
Nikki is impressed by her educational background but she has less corporate experience.
Claire says she wants to work with the best and Newman Media is a powerhouse. She gives them a bunch of compliments and wonders how the takeover of McCall will go.
With some prompting, she admits there has been a lot of turnover at Newman Media but she’s sure that having Nikki is control will put everything right.
Audra wonders why she’s leaving her job in Chicago given how highly her boss spoke of her.
She claims the chaos of big city life isn’t for her. She’s from a small town and wanted to go back.
Nikki is thrilled to hear she’s a friend of the Carmichael family.
She clutches her chest when Claire tells them she was raised by her great aunt after her parents died.
Nikki thinks she’s a very smart and interesting young woman.
They send her off and then ponder the hire. They decide she’s smart and energetic.
Calling Claire back, they offer her the job. She’s thrilled and thanks them.
She’ll start making arrangements to relocate immediately and tells them they can’t know what this means to her.
Once she exits, Audra says Nikki seems to enjoy taking on a mentoring role for young people.
Nikki does if they impress her and makes it clear Audra doesn’t.
